One of the most annoying things is to find that the hardworking home appliance you rely on, especially your dryer has stopped working, particularly if you are in a hurry. But don’t panic yet!

Repairing your dryer is not as hard as you think. A dryer is a fairly simple home appliance that takes in cool air which is heated by an electrical heater and then blows the heated air through your clothes. The condensed water exits through the vent.

When the air supply and outflow is interrupted, your dryer won’t work resulting in long drying cycles that mean expensive electricity bills. Here is what you should do when your dryer takes too long to dry your clothes. Check:

  • filters to see if they are blocked as this can obstruct airflow. In fact, it is a good idea to check and clean these regularly
  • if your dryer has reasonable air circulation around it to avoid failure
  • vents are clear and have no obstructions

In tumble dryers a lack of heat is the most common problem. Look for the reset button at the back of the dryer and press it. This should restore operations.

Always remember to:

  • Switch off your dryer and unplug it before attempting any dryer repair
  • Let your dryer run through its cooldown phase
